NJ Football '24 DB/RB/WR Jaeden Jones Back on Both Sides of Ball to Help Colonia Achieve New Heights in 2022

Colonia, NJ: When you look at the stats posted in 2021 by Colonia Class of 2024 wide receiver / running back / defensive back Jaeden Jones, you will see why he picked up so many individual honors in his sophomore season.

Jones led Colonia with 58 tackles from his defensive back position and also led the team with six interceptions (two for scores). On offense, he had five TDs from the running back and receiver positions, totaling seven scores for the 8-3 Patriots. Jones also returns kicks and is hardly off the field.

Those stats, and his play on the field, earned Jones a spot on the All-Division and All-Area teams and set him up as a player to watch in 2022.

Colonia just missed advancing to the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 sectional final, losing 14-7 to eventual North Jersey champion Irvington. In 2022, Jones hopes that his team can take that next step.

Off the field, the 5'11", 175-pound 15-year-old rising junior is working hard to improve his strength and conditioning heading into the fall. He's also striving to raise his GPA even higher in the classroom. He has a 3.56 GPA now, which is expected to rise after the grades for his sophomore year settle.

Here is a scouting report on Jones from a coach who faced him:

"He is really quick to the ball on defense. I think as good as he can be on offense, he was really good playing defensive back in 2021. He has very good coverage skills and is a ball hawk.

"When you see him line up in the backfield or the slot, you know he has a chance to break anything for a score. He was not used a lot out of the backfield, but when he got 15 carries against Iselin, he had 131 yards. He also had an eight-catch, 70-yard receiving day against Montgomery. I think he has a chance to be an elite weapon in the league in 2022."
